Friends of the St. Clair River is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 2017 to raise awareness about the need to clean up the St. Clair River located along Michigan's Thumb Coast. We are headquartered in St. Clair, Michigan and are served by a volunteer Board of Directors, staff, and volunteer stewards.

As the Thumb Coast region’s largest environmental non-profit, we work with partners on the Canadian and American sides of the international St. Clair River on a variety of initiatives, including land stewardship, community education, environmental monitoring, and responsible recreation.

We aim to increase watershed awareness about pollution prevention, drinking water protection and habitat improvements across our urban, rural and agriculture landscapes. We conserve high quality habitats, address wetland loss, protect local threatened and endangered species, and advance the culture of trail use. We keep watch on emerging concerns such as microplastics, PFAS, climate change impacts, invasive species, and energy pipelines.

We are supported by private, state, and federal grants, sponsorships, contracts, as well as individual, corporate, and business donations. Please consider supporting Friends of the St. Clair River today by becoming a sponsor or a donor.

For thousands of years, Indigenous Peoples of our watershed have been stewards of the land they lived on. We are committed to learning and listening to understand their cultures and relationships to the land and to amplify their knowledge in conserving lands and water.

Thank you to all our supporters and partners!

We are grateful to these generous organizations for making a difference for the Thumb Coast's parks, trails and rivers. Their support is an environmental legacy that's protecting and conserving the St. Clair River’s watersheds!
