Friends of the St Clair River Announces New Executive Director

New position is filled for the region’s largest environmental organization

Friends of the St. Clair River announces that Sheri Faust has been selected to fill the organization’s first-ever Executive Director position, rounding out the organization’s 16th year since inception. Sheri started her new position on October 2nd. As Executive Director, Sheri will help to fulfill Friend’s mission of prioritizing healthy rivers, clean water, green spaces, and accessible trails using an environmental, economic and socially responsible approach; a hallmark of Friends’ work.

Sheri has held various government and non-profit positions across Southeast Michigan culminating in her current position as the director of the region’s largest environmental organization. Sheri brings over 25 years of experience in natural resource management, fundraising, education programming, and recreation planning.

Friends Board President, Carrie Dollar, and faculty at St Clair County Community College, shared, “We are thrilled to have reached this milestone to expand our capacity meeting the region’s challenges to improve quality of life and protect our natural assets. We’re grateful for our donors and partners who were instrumental in helping us meet our ambitious fundraising goals. These are exciting times and the continued support in Friends’ work ahead is truly appreciated.”

Sheri Faust, Executive Director, said, “This is an incredible opportunity to build on 20 years of work across the Thumb Coast engaging leaders in decision-making for sustainable environmental outcomes. I helped establish Friends of the St Clair River sixteen years ago in response to community improvement needs to make our rivers swimmable, drinkable, and fishable. Like many nonprofit start-up stories go, a group of us got to work around a table in our attorney's office. I’m excited to usher the organization into its next phase.”
