Sturgeon Festival Sturgeon Stories Art Contest
We caught some keepers!
For the past eleven years, students who participate in our Sturgeon Science School presentations and field trips have been challenged to submit an entry in our Sturgeon Art Contest that showcases their knowledge of the threatened Lake Sturgeon by means of art, song, or poetry. After tallying hundreds of votes cast from our community members, we were able to award three grand-prize winners a prize package including a rod and reel combo set from Anderson Pro Bait Shop and an adorable plush sturgeon.
Congratulations to Emma Rymar from Belle River Elementary, Maggie Steptoe from Michigamme Elementary, and Randie Acton from Avoca Elementary whose posters were selected as the top winners out of the nearly 650 art pieces received.
To add to the celebration, we awarded all ten finalists the rare opportunity to hand-release a baby sturgeon back into the wild during a special beachside ceremony on June 1 at Blue Water Sturgeon Festival. Thank you to all students who submitted an entry, and to our community whose votes raised over $1,300 to help keep Sturgeon Science school free to future students!
